It gets so hot here in the Okanagan Valley that it's great there are so many lakes that are perfect for swimming.  We went for a hike at Okanagan Mountain Park near Kelowna and then took a cooling dip in the lake.  Supper at Kelowna's Swiss Chalet was a bit different - they have a patio overlooking a stream !!

Saw a show on Outdoor Life Network last Thursday (Aug 10) about mountain biking at Sun Peaks, Kamloops.  It was less than 2 hours from here (Vernon) so I took a trip there on Saturday.  Check out my biking pages to see how it went.

Time to leave Vernon after a month in the Okanagan Valley. Despite our chronic car problems, which caused us to cancel our trip to Victoria for the Field Family Reunion, we revised our plans to head home and took off for Vancouver, which would have been too disappointing .  Booked into Burnaby Cariboo RV park, which seems to be a good central location for exploring this area, plus the sites have FULL hookups including a phone for an Internet connection right in the trailer and Costco, Wal-Mart, etc are within walking distance  !! Decided to stay here for two weeks before starting the trek back to Toronto.

Fortunately, several of the Field family were still in town, so we took a ferry trip to Victoria on Vancouver Island and met up with Auntie Dorothy and Uncle George.  Spent a delightful day - lunch on a beach-side patio, sightseeing from Mount Douglas, blackberry picking at Whiddies Lagoon, and dinner with the 'Fields' at the Embassy Restaurant after strolling by the Empress Hotel / Parliament / waterfront in Victoria.

Had a trip to West Vancouver today (Aug 17) to hike in Cypress Falls Park and take a ride on the bike trails.  The Douglas Fir trees in this park are impressive - many are over 400 years old and up to 200' tall.
