Visited Lake Louise and Moraine Lake. These lakes are
fed from glaciers and have a beautiful turquoise colour, due to the minerals
in the glaciers. Lake Louise is the most visited spot in the Rockies
and you can see why. Although it is a stunning view, it is almost impossible
to get a good picture due to the high contrast of the mountains in shadow,
the sun on the snow and the Victoria Glacier, and the bright blue sky and
white fluffy clouds - I think the pictures in the guide books are either
edited or the photographer knew when the ideal light conditions existed.

Spent a few days browsing around Banff village
- mainly overpriced restaurants, art galleries, tacky gift shops and endless
Japanese tourists. Apparently the Japanese now own Banff Springs Hotel
and many more properties here.

Johnson Canyon is just outside Banff and is a very popular short
hike. The steep canyon walls have catwalks along much of them and they
lead to two dramatic waterfalls, the Lower and the Upper - it's about a
2 hour walk to see both and really worthwhile.

Decided to skip visiting Jasper so we took a run up the Banff-Jasper
highway and along the Icefields Parkway. Lot of spectacular views,
with most mountains having glaciers on their upper slopes. At the
Icefields Information Centre, about 100 Km south of Jasper, the Athabasca
Glacier is within walking distance of the highway (which it used to touch
100 years ago).
