Sedona is one of the most beautiful locations we've visited. It is surrounded by big red mountains with unusual shapes - most have names, like Bell Rock, Cathedral Mountain, Coffee Pot, Chimney, etc.  While you are in town many are visible but the views get better if you hike, bike or drive to some of the high points overlooking the town.  Sedona is at 4500' and on the way from Phoenix (1000') to Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon at 8000'+.  The weather during the first two days (the bike rides) was perfect but changed overnight to several inches of snow. Two days later it was back to normal, but due to its elevation it tends to be 15-20F cooler than Phoenix - perfect for the hot summers but unpredictable in the winter.

After a wonderful week in Sedona we headed for the bright lights of Las Vegas.  The RV parks seemed to be plentiful and cheap in Vegas and many are part of the big hotels.  We stayed at the Showboat as it had a really nice new park with good facilities.  Some parks (like Circus Circus) were more like a mall parking lots with no landscaping, street lighting, walkways, etc, but if you just want to spend all day in the Casino and walking the Strip that's probably OK for some.    Spent most nights at the big hotel buffets and then watching the free shows outside the hotels - Bellagio's water show was definitely the classiest act - dancing fountains set to music like Sinatra, Pavarotti, etc.

Had a trip to Red Rock Canyon which was very nice and just like a tiny version of Sedona.

Left Las Vegas on Wednesday 29 March and headed for Moab (mountain bike mecca!) for a few days riding and sightseeing. There are two spectacular National Parks near Moab, Arches and Canyonlands, which shouldn't be missed and several Scenic Byways.  The weather didn't cooperate much and was cloudy during the bike rides and some side trips - we went back to Arches to re-take a few pictures when it was sunny as the scenery was much more dramatic in the sun.

This was more or less the end of our trip with all left being a 2500 mile drive home!  On leaving Utah, we stopped off Monday night to visit Hal and Gwen in Grand Junction, CO. We met this couple at Justin's RV Park in Tucson (Hal has the Yamaha trail bike I borrowed). We crossed the Rockies going by ski resorts like Vail and Breckenridge and climbed to over 11,000' at the mile long Eisenhower Tunnel.  A long descent through Denver, Co was followed by hundreds of miles of flat prairie as we went through Nebraska and Des Moines, Iowa. We stayed at a Flying J truck stop for free in North Platte, Nebraska and again in La Salle, Illinois. The last day took us past Chicago and through Detroit and into Canada and home to Oakville.

So ends a wonderful trip - December 28, 1999 to April 6, 2000 and 19,200 Km.!!  So many places, people and memories. We've enjoyed documenting our journey on the Web and it will serve us as a great diary and photo album.  Hope you have enjoyed following our travels.
